Spring 2023 Collection

Behind the Collection

As in my previous work, florals are the star of this spring's collection with companion designs sprinkled in. They represent color, love, care, joy, celebration, feminism, fertility, and hope. For this year, I drew inspiration from flowers native to the places I’ve lived. Daffodils, tulips, and crocuses are synonymous with the springs of my childhood in New England. I was most interested in the daffodil for its shape and symbolism. Daffodils signify not only celebration and rebirth but memorial.

At first, I thought of daffodils more as contributing elements than as the primary focus of any design. I played with the daffodil shape, reducing it to minimal attributes before deciding to see how daffodils could function as a central theme. From there, I painted a few variations of a hand-drawn sketch of the daffodils. Each variation led to different outcomes, but as a whole, the daffodil motifs shared a vibrancy and a celebratory feel that energized me.

This direction was worth exploring. While painting daffodils, I chose rich gold yellows reminiscent of California poppies. These bright wildflowers blanket California hillsides each spring—one of my favorite sights. It occurred to me that I was painting flowers as memories. It felt personal.

One of my favorite spring tasks is planning a garden, and I look forward to gardening as one of my therapy sources. With my hands in the dirt and the sun warming my back, I watch the transformation of seeds from leaves to flowers to fruits. I feel close to my late mom, whose love of gardening preceded my interest and compelled my focus in botanicals as subjects in my artwork journey.

New Designs

This design collection will be available through these licensing partners.

‘Unreleased’ Designs

One of my goals this spring was to make sure that there were exclusive design options that aligned with the newest collection theme for companies who are printing internationally, or want exclusivity. These designs are unreleased, in other words not for sale on licensing partner sites yet. They are available for licensing only, either exclusively* or non exclusively on a first come first serve basis. They are also available to buy as a custom request basis on Spoonflower.

I always overdevelop my collections and I can’t include every single design. Where do those extra designs go? Let’s find out if there is a home for them!

To license these designs fill out my license form. Or buy it on Spoonflower products on a custom request, by filling out a custom request.

*Please note the design name and scale in your message, and any modifications such as size, or color (scroll down to see scale and colors).

Other Spring Designs

These designs are not new but still so perfect for Spring floral themed projects.

The Process

My art is process intensive - there is a lot of exploration that goes into what I make. I like to play and try on various styles before I find something that feels good. Here is a snapshot of some exploration for the Spring collection.
