How and When to Use Wallpaper, Designer Point of View

My perspective is from designing wallpaper since 2005, fresh out of art school, when wallpaper wasn’t as chic but it was my introduction and foundation to commercial design. By 2015, wallpaper was starting to come back as I started Crystal W Design.

In recent years wallpaper has joined the conversation next to paint colors, fixtures, and finishes in interior design projects offering a nostalgic respite and its ability to contribute in small or big ways.

In the past, wallpaper gained an unsavory reputation for its removal, but with the help of better technology and a renewed point of view, wallpaper now offers a fresh way to reimagine spaces.

  • Creates an airy, welcoming feel in otherwise confined spaces

  • Quickly achieves a dark moody theme without the pain of multi-layered coats of paint

 New Ways to Use Wallpaper

A fun trend is wallpapered ceilings and papered “picture frame panels” Peel and stick has been used by DIYers in creative ways well beyond walls such as lining the inside of furniture china cabinets, drawer lining, refrigerator skins, and more!

There are clever ways to elevate a space using papers, and a professional installer, interior designer, or decorator can help bring your ideas to life unless you are an avid DIYer, then maybe you do it yourself!
